Seems like I'm a slacker - and I am.
It's been a terribly long time since I've been on this blog. I have been very busy. Not an excuse. Just an explanation.
On the upside - I have lots of updates to share. I'm in the middle of several projects and I have a lot of updates to share.
We are moving forward with the garden beds in the fences. We harvested a lot of what we had planted. Planted some new things. Prepped for the upcoming freeze and a million other little things.
To start, a few garden updates - these are from AUGUST. Did I mention I'm a slacker? :
The potatoes I planted (from the store) did come up, although not all of them. Out of the 8 I planted, 5 came up. I'd love to tell you that these produced a mountain of potatoes, but they did not. They produced about 2 and a half pounds of potatoes, but they were tiny! Haha! There were a couple the size of my palm, quite a few the size of my thumb and that's about it. They may have been sprayed with an inhibitor. I didn't take a picture, but they were delicious!
The carrots. Ah, the carrots. Planted twice from seed strips. Same seed brand. Out of the 40ish carrots planted, we had exactly 5 germinate. I should have hit the bed with a bit of phosphorus fertilizer, but my goodness. Sad. I've ordered from Baker Creek for the spring planting. And fertilize! Haha!
Tomatoes are coming in hot and heavy! I am quite pleased with the production of the tomatoes, even though we had the issue with the cucumbers in the same bed. These beautiful orange tomatoes were delicious. Next year, we will be much more organized and prepared. I'll list all the plants and where I get the seeds from, for my spring garden!
These are called Midnight Snackers. They are a beautiful little cherry tomato and they are DELICIOUS! Would definitely recommend them. They were quite prolific and awesome in salads.
And check out these bad boys! Our cucumbers came in beautifully too! I'm actually not 100% sure that they had spotted leaf. I think it may have been a fertilizer problem. I'll still eradiate the bed, just to be on the safe side, but I'll set up the cucumbers a little differently next year.
And finally, the Morning Glories! They were here when we bought this house, but my goodness - I made the mistake of thinking I could control them. I can not. I can't train them. I can't make they behave. I can't keep them from spreading all over my gardens and yard. They are beautiful. And they are now gone. This is a picture of a trellis that is COMPELTELY covered by the Morning Glories, and I put it there about a week prior to this picture! Oy! It's almost as bad as the Honeysuckle!
Hope you are all having a wonderful week!
