Good thing the Hubby and Son are strong!
I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned it, but we have been helping my parents put up a fence around their back yard. About 2 years ago, they had a huge Black Walnut tree taken down in their backyard. Of course, my brother, the artist and my husband, the other artist, took one look at that wood and insisted they wanted it!
My Mom and Dad agreed to leave the logs where they were so that Jason and Paul could retrieve them. My brother wanted to sell it and my husband wanted to use it. Either way, they promised to get the logs out of the way.
Jason knew we wouldn’t be able to do much with them until he bought a bigger chainsaw. After a year, he finally found one that he really liked. (He is a super researcher and it takes him a while to decide what he really wants). It was a big expenditure, so we needed to be sure it would meet our needs and last.
My brother, Jason and our son, Jake, knew the time had come. We had to move the logs in order to put up the fence. Only problem? They weigh a LOT. I mean like a LOT LOT. Between the three of them, they managed to push, pull and prod the logs onto our trailer. Sweet. The new problem? How were we going to get them off the trailer, and NOT put them on the ground (to rot)?
I told Jason there was NO WAY just he and I could move them. We don’t have a tractor or any other type of machinery that would aid in taking them off the trailer. Luckily, our son came over to help! Using hitch knots, ropes and brute strength, they managed to get the logs off the trailer and onto pallets! I couldn’t believe it!
The last log, which was the biggest, was the most fun for me! They could not pull it off the trailer (tug a war style), like they had the others, but they could get it off the trailer if they pulled on the rope, and I drove OUT FROM UNDER the tree by pulling the truck forward! So cool!
Another super fun activity / adventure. Ingenuity is key when you are just starting out. We may get a tractor some day, but for now, we have to use what we have. It never ceases to amaze me how inventive we can be!!!
Now we only need to get 2 MORE logs from Mom’s! Haha!
What is something you have “made work” without the proper tools?
Have a wonderful day!
